Irish traditional music is made up of several types of dance tune:

The reel, a fast tune in 4/4

The jig, a fast tune in 6/8

The hornpipe, another 4/4 tune, not as fast as a reel

The slip jig, a jig in 9/8

The slide, another type of jig

The polka, a fast tune in 2/4

The waltz, in 3/4
