Saint Patrick was a missionary and bishop who is the patron saint of Ireland. He is believed to have been born in Britain in the late 4th century, and was kidnapped by Irish raiders when he was 16 years old. He was taken to Ireland as a slave, and spent several years there before escaping and returning to his family.
Patrick had a vision in which he was called to return to Ireland as a missionary, which he did and spent many years traveling throughout the country. He is credited with driving snakes out of Ireland and using the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity. He died on March 17th, 461 AD, which is now celebrated as Saint Patrick’s Day.
