TG4 is set to air the much-anticipated television series “Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy” starting 26th November at 9.30 pm. This new series, filmed in the picturesque town of Miltown Malbay in July 2023, promises to be a feast for fans of Irish traditional music.

Celebrating its 51st year, Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy is an emblematic event in the Irish music calendar, and this series offers viewers a unique blend of performances and interviews:

  • Episode One (26th November) features the 2023 TG4 young musician of the year, Méabh Smyth, alongside her sister Aoife, and Clare concertina player Aidan Quigney. A highlight is a rare flute performance by Michael Flatley and Matt Molloy, and an appearance by legendary whistle player Mary Bergin.
  • Episode Two (3rd December) introduces viewers to local concertina player Caoilfhionn Ní Fhrighil and includes performances by members of the Tulla Ceilí Band. The episode also showcases Aoife Ní Bhriain, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, and Scottish musicians Brighde Chaimbeul & Fin Moore.
  • Episode Three (10th December) features Julie Langan and her family, alongside US harmonica and concertina player Rick Epping and Cathy Jordan. This episode also includes a segment remembering the late Séan Keane, with contributions from James Keane, Mick O’Connor, and John Kelly.
  • Episode Four (17th December) focuses on the Browne family of musicians and dancers from Cree, Co. Clare, and radio presenter Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha. Additionally, local uilleann pipe maker Derrick Gleeson and members of the Begley family pay tribute to Séamus Begley.

Produced and directed by Edel Fox for Tyrone Productions, the series offers an authentic immersion into the world of Irish traditional music, capturing the essence of this long-standing summer school.
